The economic environment has made funding a construction project a challenge. The value of long range planning has been reinforced many times in the last few years. State grants for library construction have been non-existent due to government budget cut-backs.
The support and good-will of the community has been evident in the steps we have taken with the community in the past eight years. Each time we adopted another service, e.g., adding more square footage for large print materials, increasing the number of computers, offering a range of seminars and presentations, response has been active and attracted more people to use the library.
While we continue to search for funding, these sources of income have been instrumental in making this project feasible and possible:

  • The Library Construction Fund was established by the library Board of Directors years ago in anticipation of the project. Funds are invested in certificates of deposit. Regular donations are received both via the donation box next to the library expansion model in the library and via the mail. Please click here for information about Generosity Island, our Cumulative Giving Program.

  • Our fundraising team, The Beachcombers, is a dedicated group of volunteers who have developed a comprehensive plan of events and activities designed to involve the community in charitable giving.

A bond for $2 million in 2009 enabled us to have funds in hand to move forward with hiring an architect, finishing construction documents, and setting a date for the start of construction. One-third of this bond has been paid back with anticipated plans to pay back another one-third this year, and the final third by the time construction is completed.
